On a bright Sunday morning of 29th July 2018, ten of us, nine 2nd year and one 4th year Pharmacy students flew down to Husein Sastranegara International Airport. Our aim was to attend the Summer Course Programme conducted by ITB.
Pharmacy students from several countries including, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Egypt joined the summer school programme. Most of the days, were filled with classes, discussions and presentations on some interesting emerging pharmaceutical technologies. The lecturers that were invited came from several countries such as Netherland, Japan, Singapore, Korea and America. The lessons shared with us by the lecturers were invaluable as they gave insights on the vast career of a pharmacist, be it in the clinical settings, business or industry.
The students each shared the Pharmacy practice scenario in our beloved country to see how to distinguish the little things that differ in each country which makes us see the pharmacy world in a bigger sense. It shows how everyone is integrated to deliver the best service as pharmacist that are drug experts in the healthcare system. This encouraged us to learn more and to become a fluid pharmacist who is always welcoming changes and adapting with this ever-moving health world.
Due to these multicultural students involved, this event allowed us to connect not only through pharmacy-related knowledge but also through cultural diversity. Every student of each country proudly shared their culture and norms of their society which indeed widened our perspectives towards the world.
‘Every person is a new door to a different world’. This summer school has allowed us to mingle around with students, with different backgrounds, languages and norms. We are almost similar but not quite. This diversity was truly the highlight of the summer school programme. The bond of friendships formed was unique and beautiful. We have developed a connection and tasted experience which cannot be acquired elsewhere.
